Blooming Tunes - the times, they are a changin'

Lately we have been talking about how music creates connection, how, when we sing together in a group, our heart rates sync up, we get a communal release of serotonin and oxytocin, the bonding hormone. This makes us feel good and feel connected. This sense of connection and community is one of the most precious things about class for me.

So this news may come as a shock to many.
But, after much agonising, we have decided to take a break from running the Music Together program. Blooming Tunes will be taking a break from term based classes for the remainder of this year.

After nearly 7 years running community classes and teaching the Music Together curriculum, I have taught hundreds of families in the Territory.
And I have loved every moment of it.
I've loved watching families grow and change, I've loved the laughter and moments of silliness, I loved the sense of community and joy that singing together brings.
I've loved that we've been able to create an accepting space for children and adults to engage and play with music.
A space where everyone is welcome.
Where everyone is a musician and everyone has a part to play.

I have loved working alongside Music Together to bring this fantastic curriculum to life in the NT but this business model is no longer sustainable and I know that it is time for me to make a change so that I can look after myself and my family.

I been accepted back at University to (finally) complete my teaching degree and would like to run casual classes around my study. In addition to study, I will also be working to create our own music program and working to start/complete some of my other creative projects that have been on the back burner.
Stay tuned for all the juicy news.
I am unsure what this will look like at this early stage but details about casual classes and our school holiday event:
'Blooming Tunes Musical Menagerie' will follow soon.

At the end of last year, the plans I put in place for my business were very different to how this has eventuated, but the loss of another teacher, the needs of my family, my health and well-being and the ongoing costs of running the Music Together curriculum has meant that something needed to change.

I want to thank you all for supporting these classes, for being a champion for play based education and for jamming with us this term, this year or these last 7 years. But also for your understanding and compassion during this time of change.

I hope you will all join me in the future for more music making magic.

I have agonised about this decision as I have grown to truly adore my beautiful families and children but for the moment, taking a break is the right thing to do - however hard it feels. We've got to put our oxygen mask on first if we want to be a force of good and it has come time for me to take a big breath.

If you have LOVED your music experience with us, please give us another 5 star review on our facebook page, these reviews really help our business and will give us a solid foundation to continue to deliver play based music experiences in Darwin.
